Ripzone Open - Blue Mountain

The Coors Light YOU LOOK GOOD Rider’s Cup finished off its series yesterday at Blue Mountain with the Ripzone Open. Over 100 riders came out in the spring like conditions to participate in Canada’s premier slopestyle series battling some slushy conditions and hoping the rain would hold out. Luckily the rain did in fact hold out until Salomon Am and Coors Light Pro Men Categories allowing all categories to display their best runs for finals. The course did get a tad bit slushy but was maintained consistently throughout the day by the Blue Mountain park staff leaving the take off and landings as best as they could be.

The day provide to be a phenomenal success with the following winners:

BANFF INVASION

Banff Norquay played host to the third stop of the Coors Light YOU LOOK GOOD Rider’s Cup.  The day was blessed with blue bird skies and -5 temps.  A consistent and substantial crowd supported the riders throughout the day and cheered even louder as Murray Hodgson attempted a double backflip backside 180 and as Matt Munn sent a 70ft one-footer into the flats and yes he rode away (after a coupe of reverts but who cares).  Standout riders on the day of were Kirsty Macdonald’s backside fives and lofty three’s in the qualies but unfortunately struggled with her landings in the finals and missed the podium.  Joel Dalackar, new on the competition scene entered his 3rd event of YLGRC09 looked to three-peat after qualifying in 2nd but he too unfortunately struggled with his landings in the finals and missed the podium.  Pierce Mimura was the repeat winner in the Amateur category after stomping cab 5, back cork 7, front 7!  Cassandra Ironside, on a competitive tear this year locked up her first win on the tour as she sent a switch back one into a back 3 melon and launches her into the series lead!  Men’s Coors Light Pro category were plagued with speed issues…those that were either over weight or had wax had no difficulties as the found the podium with standout runs.  3rd place went to Geoff Brown who dropped backside rodeo five into a switch backside 900 (winning trick of the Ripzone Best Trick!!) into a corky-backside-900.  Scot Brown launched himself into 2nd place as well as into the flats of each landing as he sent a switch backside rodeo five, frontside 7 tail and ended with a cork-bacside 7 melon!  The big winner of the day was Nash Lajuenesse (THINK FINESSE) dropped an entire switch run consisting of a switch backside 7 something grab, cab 7 something grab and banged out a switch backside 900 something or other grab…he killed it and won so i guess his grabs don’t matter.
